theme the Middle Ages: Jews,

Kathleen and David Lewis
The Institution of Human Rela-
tions of the American Jewish
Committee will present its Judge
Learned Hand Award to Kath-
leen McCree Lewis and David
Baker Lewis at dinner at the
Westin Hotel on May 22.
Kathleen McCree Lewis is a
partner in the Detroit office of
Dykema Gossett and is a spe-
cialist in appellate litigation.
David Baker Lewis is a founding
shareholder and chairman of the
board of Lewis, White and Clay
and specializes in municipal bond
law. They both graduated from
the University of Michigan Law
School.
Both Kathleen and David
Lewis are active community lead-
ers. Kathleen Lewis is a trustee
of the Center for Creative Stud-
ies and Greening of Detroit. She
is a past trustee of Children's
Hospital of Michigan. Since 1991
she has been a Commissioner of
the City of Detroit Civic Center
Commission and was elected to
the board of directors of Jacobson
Stores, Inc. in 1993.
David Lewis serves on the
Michigan Opera Theatre and the
Center for Creative Studies
boards of trustees. He is a cur-
rent member of the board of di-
rectors for Music Hall Center for
the Performing Arts and the De-
troit Symphony Orchestra, Inc.
He is also an active member of
the boards of the National Con-
ference of Christians and Jews,
SEMCOG - Regional Develop-
ment Initiative Oversight Com-
mittee and the Greater Detroit
and Windsor Japan-American
Society.
The Institute of Human Rela-
tions award is presented to
lawyers who, through their skills,
influence and dedication, have
demonstrated their profound
commitment to preserving hu-
man rights and our democratic
heritage.

Alyn Hospital is Israel's only or-
thopedic hospital and rehabilita-
tion center for physically
handicapped children. Brenda
Hirsch, Alyn's International
Communications Director will
visit Michigan from March 21-26.
In addition to the special
speakers listed in the below
events, Ms. Hirsch will speak on
the treatment and care of dis-
abled children in Israel. All
events are open to the public.
Yvone Duffy, Free Press colum-
nist, will appear Wednesday,
March 22, 9-10:30 a.m. at Adat
Shalom Synagogue. She will
speak on "How to teach your chil-
dren to interact with disabled in-
dividuals."
A Horodoker luncheon is
scheduled for Wednesday, March
22, at noon. Lunch is open to all
Horodoker women; 1 p.m. pro-
gram is open to the public. It will
be held at the West Bloomfield
Federations Apartments.
A coffee tasting by Lonestar
Coffee Co. is slated for Wednes-
day, March 22, 7:30 p.m. at the
home of Sondra Berlin. A mini-
mum donation is requested.
Shabbat services will be held
Saturday, March 25, 9 a.m. at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek for
5th grade commencement.
Kids on the Block will appear
Sunday, March 26, at Temple
Emanu-El. Morning minyan,
9:05-9:35 a.m., program, 9:35-11
a.m. Third-5th grade children will
attend with their classes.
