On a tour of the classrooms,
the teachers appeared to enjoy
the lessons as well as a chance to
be with like-minded profession-
als. In one room, participants
made puppets out of pieces of
brightly colored felt; in another
room, women danced in a circle,
holding hands and singing.
Many teachers said they would
take the ideas they learned back
to the classroom.
"You are so into letters and all
of that. You sometimes forget the
Jewish things," said DeAnna
Granitz, a Temple Israel nursery-
school teacher. "I plan to use the
things I learned today as soon as
I can."

"I think we all have to grow as
educators," Temple Israel teacher
Donna Brennan said. "By shar-
ing ideas and sharing what oth-
er people are doing, I think we get
other tools to use in the class-
room."
It was also a first for some of
the presenters who are used to
giving demonstrations on other
Jewish topics.
"I have participated in work-
shops dealing with Shabbat or
the holidays in the past but I
have never taught at one dealing
with bringing Jewish content into
each day," said Janet Pont, di-
rector of the Congregation

The Jewish News will honor the
area's brightest Jewish high-
school seniors in our annual year-
book in May.
High-school principals in south
Oakland County have been asked
to distribute our form to a maxi-
mum of six of their Jewish seniors
with the highest grade-point av-
erage (minimum requirement:
3.6 unweighted).
If students feel they qualify but
have not been contacted, they
should check with their high-
school principal. Students outside
south Oakland County who qual-
ify can contact Alan Hitsky at The
