ton Hills on Feb. 27.
A West Bloomfield High
School freshman, Lash averages
202 in the league. He and part-
ner BRIAN RAF, 16, a West
Bloomfield resident who is a ju-
nior at Bloomfield Hills Andover
High School, combined for a 1401
scratch score on Feb. 27.
SIMON GALED won the 50
freestyle in 22.63 and the 100
freestyle in 49.30 as Berkley
High School captured six of the
12 events in the Oakland Activ-
ities Association Division II boys
swimming meet held Feb. 24 at
West Bloomfield.
Galed also was a member of
Berkley's winning 200 medley re-
lay team and runnerup 200
freestyle relay quartet. The med-
ley relay group was clocked in
1:40.91 and the freestyle relay
team earned a berth in the Class
A state meet with a 1:30.93 tim-
ing.
JEREMY HERTZA and
DAVE STEGMAN of West
Bloomfield won events in their
home pool.
Hertza captured the diving
competition with 453.95 points.
Stegman was first in the 100 but-
terfly in 53.86 and second in the
200 IM in 2:06.21.
West Bloomfield's ADAM
ROSENDER was second in the
500 freestyle in 5:04.51 and fourth
in the 200 freestyle in 1:52.55.
JASON GOLD has won a Class
A district championship in his
first season as the coach of the
Ferndale High School volleyball
team.
Gold's group captured the dis-
trict at Hazel Park on March 4
during the day, but the Berkley
High School volleyball team
failed to make it out of the Class
A district it hosted March 4.
In back-to-back matches
against tough opponents, Berkley
beat Detroit Henry Ford 15-12,
13-15, 16-14 in the semifinals, but
it fell to Farmington Hills Mercy
15-13, 16-14 in the finals.
Despite the loss, Berkley en-
joyed its most successful season
in history. It compiled a 20-10-6
overall record and it won the Di-
vision IV championship in the
Oakland Activities Association
with a perfect 10-0 mark.

West Bloomfield defeated
Birmingham Seaholm 15-3, 15-
12 in the finals at Bloomfield Hills
Lahser, putting the finishing
touches on a 15-hour marathon
competition Feb. 25 which in-
volved all 24 OAA teams.
Earlier, West Bloomfield won
four of six pool games and it beat
Troy, Ortonville-Brandon and
Birmingham Groves in the play-
offs.
Birmingham Marian beat
West Bloomfield 15-11, 13-15, 15-
13 in the semifinals of a rugged
Class A district held at West
Bloomfield on March 4.
JEFF JACOB scored a season-
high 35 points, hitting 10-of-13
free throws, and DAN liUKES
had 15 points and eight re-
bounds, leading the Bloomfield
Hills Andover High School boys
basketball team past Waterford
Kettering 76-75 on Feb. 28.
Jacob had 16 points and Kukes
added 14 in Andover's 78-62 loss
to Royal Oak Kimball on March
3. Kukes tallied 16 points in An-
dover's 69-64 defeat to Hazel
Park on Feb. 24. Andover finished
8-12 in the regular season.
