Those who experience a signif- icant loss of hearing in only one ear should not deceive themselves into thinking that good hearing in the other ear is sufficient. The fact that sound arrives at each ear at slightly different times is the basis for the sense of depth which we refer to as "stereo" sound. Thus, people with good hearing in one ear not only have difficulty in de- tecting the directon of sound, but they are deprived of sound's rich- ness and fullness. In addition, it is difficult to hear soft conversation when someone speaks on the hearing impaired listener's "bad side" or when the telephone re- ceiver is pressed against the "wrong ear." These are reasons enough to explore the help that a hearing instrument might provide. ATTENTION READERS: WE WANT TO KNOW. During the next four weeks, we will be evaluating our service to the public and de- termining whether or not to con- tinue writing our weekly column. Please call me personally at CRUZ HEARING AID SERVICE, located at 18899 W. 12 Mile Rd., in Lath- nap Village, 424-8450, stop me on the street in town, or let the office staff know if you enjoy our column, find it interesting and helpful, and would like to see it continue. P.S. Not being able to detect sound's direction can be a safety factor in traffic and other situ- ations.
