Detroit Friends of Alyn Hospital grateful-
ly thank everyone who contributed to our
successful 1994 Fall Fundraiser. With all
your help we are able to continue our spon-
sorship of a child at Alyn Hospital. Our
Detroit Chapter supplements the differ-
ence between Adi's (our special angel)
medical coverage and the true cost to feed
and care for an otherwise normal teenag-
er. Adi lives at Alyn Hospital so we know
on a day to day basis what a difference we
make in Adi's life.
We also thank Dr. Ralph and Barbara
Cash for allowing us to honor them on be-
half of Alyn Hospital. The whole commu-
nity came out to support Alyn and the
Cashes and we appreciate all your help.
BLOOMFIELD HILLS
BIPAP RESPIRATOR
PROJECT
During the spring of 1995, the Detroit
Friends of Alyn are embarking upon a BI-
PAP RESPIRATOR PROJECT. We are rais-
ing funds through the sale of new tribute
cards to purchase Respirators for the Hos-
pital at a cost of $7,000 each. The BIPAP
RESPIRATOR is the latest in respirator ap-
pliances. It permits breathing through a
face mask, and can eliminate the necessi-
ty of a tracheotomy This is beneficial for
the interim period for children with Pro-
gressive Muscular Dystrophy who need
to be put on a respirator only part of the
time. The availability of a BIPAP RESPI-
RATOR can also put off surgery until a
child needs to be put on a respirator full
time.
The BIPAP RESPIRATOR can also be
used to wean some children off using a res-
pirator full time, such as patients with
spinal cord or head injuries. These are of-
ten car accident victims who are transferred
to Alyn from general hospital intensive
care uni ts after emergency care is admin-
istered. ALYN IS THE PREFERRED IN-
STITUTION FOR THE ONGOING
CARE OF THESE CHILDREN.

The spring brings us our biennial visit from
Brenda Hirsch, Alyn Hospital Communi-
cations Director. We have a busy schedule
planned for Brenda and encourage every-
one to attend one of our exciting programs.

morning minyan at 9:05 a.m. and to a spe-
cial program with puppeteer group - Kids
on the Block starting at 9:35 a.m. 3rd-5th
grade children will attend with their class.
