The conference consists of an afternoon discussion series, a number of major speakers, films, an art exhibit, a trip to the Holo- caust Memorial Center, an evening with survivors, a vigil on the Diag, a memorial service, an evening of creative expression, and a children of survivors pro- gram. An American Jewish liberator and survivors will speak about liberation and memories of the Holocaust on Saturday, March 25, at 8:30 p.m. at Hillel. Dr. Eve Fogelman will give this year's Michael Bernstein Memorial Lecture titled "The Psychology of Moral Courage" on Thursday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. at Hillel. This year's keynote speaker is Art Spiegelman, author of the Maus I: A Survivor's Tale —My Father Bleeds History (1986) and Maus II: And Here My Troubles Began (1991). He will speak at the Power Center on Monday, March 27 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Hillel. On Sunday, March 26, Pro- fessor David Wyman will discuss "America and the Holocaust" at Hillel at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Wyman is a historian from U-Mass Amherst. He serves as a special adviser to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council. This year's David W. Belin Lecture in American Jewish Affairs will be offered by Alvin Rosenfeld who will discuss "The Americanization of the Holo- caust: on Monday, March 20, at 8 p.m. in Rackham Amphi- theater. The afternoon discussion se- ries will include six diverse pro- grams. Rabbi Robert Levy of Temple Beth Emeth and the Reverend Virginia Peacock, Epis- copal Chaplain at U-M Canter- bury House will discuss "God and the Problem of Evil During the Holocaust" on Monday, March 20, at noon in Rackham East Conference room. On Tuesday, March 21, Rormi Sanlo, director of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Pro- grams office will lead a discus- sion on "Gays and Lesbians during the Holocaust" at noon in the East Conference room of Rackham. On Wednesday, March 22, U-M Dearborn pro- fessor of history Dr. Sidney Bolkovsky will offer an afternoon discussion on "The Question of Rescue: Denmark's Response to the Holocaust" at noon at Hillel. This is presented in conjunction with the "Resistance and Rescue: Denmark's Response to the Holo- caust" photographic exhibit by Thanks to Scandinavia, Inc. in New York. A reception will fol- low Dr. Bolkosky's talk and guests are invited to look at the exhibit in the adjoining hall. On Thursday, March 23, at noon in the East Conference room of Rackham, U-M Profes- sor of English Dr. Ralph Williams will offer a talk titled "This Has Been: Remembering War in a Time of Truce" in which he discusses Prima Levi's .con- cept of our post- liberation age as a time of truce rather than a time of full peace. On Friday, March 24, at 11:30 a.m. in Rackham East Confer- ence room, Dr. Fogelman will dis- cuss the psychodynamics of the mourning process in a program titled "From Mourning to Cre- ativity: The Generation After the Holocaust." Finally, on Monday, March 27, U-M Professor of Political Science Dr. Harold Jacobson will discuss the U. N. Convention on Genocide at 12:30 p.m. at 3050 Frieze. This year's programming com- mittee will present two films, The Last Stop (1948) and The Parti- sans of Vilna (1985), as part of the conference. On Tuesday, A liberator and survivors will share memories of the Holocaust. March 21, at 7 p.m. the Daniel Goldstein Jewish Film Festival and the Michigan Theater (603 E. Liberty) will show the rarely screened film The Last Stop. The Partisans of Vilna will be shown on Wednesday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m. at 1202 in the School of Education Building (SED). The annual 24-hour vigil, A Memorial of Names, will occur on the Diag from noon on Mon- day, March 20, until Tuesday, March 21. The vigil will conclude with a short memorial service led by Michael Brooks, executive di- rector of U-M Hillel, on Tuesday, March 21, at 11:30 a.m. on the Diag. Additionally, there will be a Children of Survivors program on Friday, March 24, at 9 p.m. at Hillel. Sunday, March 19, will offer an evening of Holocaust-inspired creative expression by students and community members at 6 p.m. at Cava Java Cafe.
