Today was a day of meaning
and personal moments. Photog-
rapher Moe Ulrych of South-
field best captured that joy on
the faces of yeshiva students cel-
ebrating Shlomo Yaakov Apt's
Thursday morning bar mitzvah
at Young Israel of Greenfield in
Oak Park.
Mr. Ulrych, himself a Yeshiva
Beth Yehudah graduate, pho-
tographed the boys after their
davening.
"I wanted to put the boys to-
gether, and I wanted to convey
the underlying mystique of be-
ing a bar mitzvah and yeshiva
boy at the same time," Mr. Ul-
rych said. "When this is all said
and done, what is the
common ingredient these Top: The joyous
boys had? They all had
these mini-Borsolino hats faces of friends
on. I recollected my days
celebrating a
at Yeshiva and I had a
classmate's bar
spiritual flashback."

On Oct. 23, 1945, Liliann and
Ely Katz were married. The
bride was beautiful then, and
still is now as the couple cele-
brated their 50th anniversary.
Two children got caught by a
camera lens while they danced
on a synagogue hall floor as a
banquet was being set up. Mean-
while, other youths learned
Torah together.
For 15-month-old Gregory
Michael Sollish, baking a challah
with his bubbie, Genie Sollish of
West Bloomfield, is already an
important part of his Jewish life.
"It's never too early to teach
someone what family and what
Judaism are all about," Mrs.
Sollish said.
