Escape to the islands of Hawaii
with the Cultural Arts Division
of the city of Southfield and cin-
ematographer John Holody on
Friday, March 17. The film
Hawaii - Wild and Beautiful will
be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the
City Council Chambers of the city
of Southfield as part of the World
Travel and Adventure Series
Let John Holod, an island res-
ident, show the side of Hawaii
tourists rarely see. From sunrise
over Haleakala Crater on Maui
to Volcano National Park on the
big island of Hawaii where you
will witness the devastating ef-
fects of burning lava on the big
island and its people. All six of
the islands will be visited in-
cluding Maui, where viewers will
see authentic cowboys, roping
and riding Hawaiian rodeo style.
On Lanai visitors will view the
beautiful "Garden of the Gods"
and will experience the miles of
unspoiled beaches on the island
of Molokai. The film will then
travel to Kauai, the Garden Isle,
where viewers will explore
Waimea Canyon and the Na Pali
sea cliffs, 4,000 feet above the
pounding surf.
What tom- of the Hawaiian Is-
lands would be complete iwthout
a look at the two most famous is-
lands, Oahu and Hawaii, and
their most popular sites such as
Waikiki Beach, Kona, Hilo, Sea
Life Park, Mauna Loa and Mau-
na Kea.
For information, call the Mary
Thompson Cultural Center, (810)
354-4717.
