John Engler

Michigan Governor John Engler
will greet a blue-ribbon delega-
tion representing the Central
Galilee region of Israel March 10
in the State Capital.
As guests of the Jewish Federa-
tion of Metropolitan Detroit, the
delegation will be in Michigan
March 6-13 on behalf of Partner-
ship 2000. The people-to-people pro-
gram links North American and
European Jewish communities to
27 regions in Israel earmarked for
development, particularly in the
areas of tourism, industry and hu-
man needs. Detroit's Jewish com-
munity has been paired with the
Central Galilee Region in the north
of Israel.
At the meeting, the governor
and the delegation are expected
to discuss potential programs to
benefit both the state of Michigan
and the Central Galilee. Prior to
the meeting, Jewish Community
Council Executive Director David
Gad-Harf will brief the delegates
on the role of the Jewish Commu-
nity Council, the relationship be-
tween the Jewish community and
the general community and the
Jewish community and the state
government.
During their week-long stay,
the delegates will meet with offi-
cers and board members of the
Federation and its United Jew-
ish Foundation, area business
leaders and young adults. They
will visit Federation agencies,
high-tech industrial facilities and
selected Jewish sites. The itiner-
ary also includes meetings with
Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer,
Oak Park Mayor Gerald Naftaly
and officials at the University of
Michigan and Michigan State
University.
