They are really competitive," Nechama said. Kathy Sklar, a high-school teacher at Akiva, told the stu- dents that winning was not the goal. "She just said, 'Go, do your best but have fun,"' Nechama said. "That's what I did." Ms. Sklar said she was proud of the students who competed this year. "They all did very well," she said.
