JONATHAN BRATEMAN PROPERTIES 810-474-3855 Dependency Workshop Set "Chemical Dependency and Re- covery in the Jewish Commu- nity" is the topic of a workshop for mental health professionals to be sponsored by Jewish Fam- ily Services on Sunday, March 19, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Jewish Community Center of Washtenaw County. Workshop leaders are Kirk Brower, director of the Chelsea Arbor Treatment Center; Trudy Simon, from McAuley outpa- tient mental health and chemi- cal dependency services; Ruth Gordon Shabazz, director of the Washtenaw Council on Alco- holism, and Pam Novetsky, for- merly with WCA and Chelsea and now a therapist in private practice with dual diagnosis clients. The workshop will discuss be- liefs, myths, stereotypes and common misconceptions about chemical dependency and will look at issues facing therapists with Jewish clients and facing Jewish therapists. It also will consider the concept of recovery and the process involved. JFS has established a provider network of mental health professionals so as to as- sist JFS with client and group counseling. The March 19 work- shop is designed to provide net- work members with continuing education but is also open to all mental health professionals. There is a charge. The work- shop is sponsored by the mental health task force of Jewish Fam- ily Services in conjunction with that agency's task force on ad- ditions. Teen Connection Activities Set The JCC/13BY0 Teen Connec- tion group invites sixth to eighth graders interested in a year-long social action project to attend a meeting on Tuesday, March 14, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center of Washtenaw County.
