The trade ministers of Egypt, Is-
rael, Jordan, the Palestinian Au-
thority and the United States,
meeting in the Israeli city of
Taba, stated unequivocally their
support for ending the Arab boy-
cott of Israel.
`The Taba Declaration breaks
new ground because we are not
only talking about free trade and
open markets, but also the elim-
ination of the Arab boycott of Is-
rael," U.S. Commerce Secretary
Ronald Brown said at the con-
clusion of the meeting.
Israel Industry and Trade Min-
ister Micha Harish noted that the
inclusion of the anti-boycott pro-
vision in the declaration was ac-
cepted without any discussion.
"It is important for those who
want to do business in the region
to see that the boycott is a non-
issue," Mr. Harish said.
"The trade leaders' meeting
demonstrates that they will not
be deterred by forces working
against peace nor by those who

want to keep this region mired in
the conflicts of the past."
The ministers agreed to set up
a working group that will identi-
fy barriers to free and open mar-
kets in the region.
