Premier Brass
Gives Concert

The Maple/Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center will present the
Premier Brass, the brass quintet
of the Detroit Symphony Or-
chestra, on March 19, at 3 p.m.
The group, in existence since
1970, fuses each member's mu-
sical experiences in jazz, rock and
classical music into authentic in-
terpretations.
The quintet consists of Kevin
Good on trumpet, a founding
member of the Detroit Chamber
Winds and teacher at U-M and
the University of Windsor;
William Lucas on trumpet, and
avid jazz buff, and a member of
the faculty of WSU; Bryan
Kennedy on French horn, twice
a prize winner in the Helde-
nieben International Horn Com-
petition and member of the
faculty at Oakland University;
Randall Hawes on Trombone, for-
merly toured with the Summit
Brass and the Woody Herman
Orchestra; and Wesley Jacobs on
tuba, principal tubist of the DSO
since 1970 and owner of a pub-
lishing company specializing in
music for brass instruments. All
are members of the Detroit
Chamber Winds.
The quintet will perform an af-
ternoon of music from Baroque
to Broadway geared to please an
audience of all ages. This activi-
ty is supported by the Michigan
Council for the Arts and Cultur-
al affairs, Touring Arts Agency.
Tickets are for general seating
and may be purchased at the
Maple/Drake JCC at JPM and
all ticketMaster outlets. For

Oak Park Recreation Depart-
ment announces the conclusion
of its Winter Concert Series with
one adult and one youth concert.
For the youngsters, the depart-
ment is excited about its March
11 program with Gemini. This
group has been the highlight en-
tertainment for several local com-
munities. There is a charge for
the 11 a.m. production.
For the adults, the Oak Park
Civic Chorus will perform at 3
p.m. on Sunday, March 12. There
is no charge for the chorus but a
donation of canned food item is
requested.
