privacy for much longer.
A visit to the company's offices
last month found Mr. Pomerantz
busy negotiating with potential
distributors in various countries
following the product's unveiling
at the Comdex computer trade
show in November.
The product, which can be
used with any Windows applica-
tion, fax or printer, is being sold
from the Israeli headquarters
and from its subsidiary, Aliroo
America, under the name Priva-
soft.
The company plans eventual-
ly to manufacture two addition-
al products: Privaside, a small
device which would be attached
to a fax machine so that docu-
ments can be scrambled without
the use of a computer, and Pri-
vasint, a device that would be in-
corporated directly into the fax
machine.
The company has already been
contacted by Japanese fax man-
ufacturers interested in adding a
"scramble" button to their prod-
uct.
Mr. Pomerantz is confident he
is offering the right product at the
right time.

— Yitzhak Pomerantz

"The only practical alternative
we can think of to Privasoft right
now is sending your recipient to
stand by the fax machine, which
is of course a very awkward so-
lution," Mr. Pomerantz said.
Aliroo recently beat 160 oth-
er Israeli start-up companies in
the competition for the Lorber
Award for Entrepreneurial Ex-
cellence and a sum of $100,000
awarded by Bar Ilan University's
research and development unit.
The company was one of the
two winners of the award, which
is judged on the basis of the orig-
inality of the start-up idea and its
potential for market success.
The award is actually an eq-
uity share in the company. When
the start-ups become successful,
they channel funds back into the
award program for future com-
panies.
Mr. Pomerantz says he prefers
to start small: "My personal ten-
dency is to start new things
rather than manage ongoing op-
erations."
The 46-year-old has already
tasted life in the executive suite.
