Health and Fitness
Support Programs

Arthritis Self Help Course (ASHC)

Co-sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation
and Sinai's Department of Physical Medicine
and Rehabilitation, ASHC is a six-week pro-
gram far individuals with arthritis and oth-
ers close to them. Topics covered include
energy conservation, exercise, relaxation and
nutrition. For more information, call Mary

Cancer Education Programs

Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

This state-of-the-art rehabilitation program
has been developed for those who have had
bypass surgery, a heart attack or have been
diagnosed for heart disease. This ongoing
program is held at Sinai's Blumberg Health
Center and is covered by most insurance pro-
grams. For information, call (313) 493-6333.

Cardiovascular Fitness Evaluation

The Cardiovascular Fitness Evaluation has
been developed for individuals who want to
find out their overall fitness level. The eval-
uation includes blood work, medical history,
body fat analysis, treadmill fitness test and
exercise prescription. The program is held
at Sinai Hospital's Cardiovascular Fitness
Center in the Blumberg Health Center. For

Childbirth and Family Life Education

Sinai Hospital offers numerous classes in
childbirth and family life education both at
Sinai Hospital and at various settings in the
community. Among the classes offered are:
Prepared Childbirth, VBAC (Vaginal Birth
After Caesarean), CPR, Parenting and many

Freedom from Smoking

Sinai Hospital co-sponsors "Freedom from
Smoking," a program of the American Lung
Association of Michigan. The eight-week pro-
gram begins with a free orientation. Partic-
ipants who wish to continue with the
program pay $65 following orientation.

Health and Wellness Program

This program is designed for those who don't
have heart disease and want to get started
on a plan to improve their overall fitness. For
fee and other information, contact the Car-

Adult Bereavement Peer Support Group

Adult Bereavement Peer Support Groups are
held at two locations: the Sinai Day Hospi-
tal located at the Jewish Community Center
(JCC) Maple/Drake Building, 6600 West
Maple Road, West Bloomfield, and at the
Jewish Community Center Jimmy Prentis
Morris Building, 15110 West Ten Mile Road,
Oak Park.

Adult Caregiver Support Group

This group offers support to adult caregivers
who are caring for a loved one who is sick
or disabled. Meetings are held from
3-4:30 p.m., at the the Jewish Community
Center (JCC) Maple/ Drake Bldg., Functional
Recovery Program classroom, second floor,
6600 West Maple, West Bloomfield, and at
Sinai in the West Conference Room (near
Zuckerman Auditorium).

Heart to Heart

This support group offers topical information
on healthy lifestyles for heart patients and
their families.

Living with Cancer

This support group is directed to individuals
with a diagnosis of cancer, their families and
friends. A series of five weekly sessions with
guests speakers is offered quarterly. There
is no charge, however, preregistration is
required.

Stepping Stones Stroke Club

The Stepping Stones Stroke Club is directed
at individuals who have had a stroke.

the third Wednesday of the month.

This support group is directed to parents of
infants in Sinai Hospital's Neonatal Inten-
sive Care Unit (NICU).
