category, Sh'hur will be Israel's
entry for best foreign-language
film for the 1995 Oscars.
It tells the story of Rachel, a
13-year-old Israeli girl from a Mo-
roccan family which still believes
in the power of magic.
Assi Dayan won for his screen-
' play of Smicha Hashmalit Ush-
ma Moshe ("Electric Blanket
Syndrome"), which also won for
best actor (Shmil Ben-Ari).
Tsaleket ("Scar"), the Israeli-
French co-production, won for
original score, soundtrack, edit-
ing and costume design.

Shirat Hasinera ("The Siren's
Song"), a film version of the best-
selling novel by Irit Linor, won
for best supporting actress (Orli
Silberschatz-Banai).
Half of the 12 participating
films centered around female lead
characters, and three of the films
were directed by women.
For the first time, seven tele-
vision dramas competed in a new
award category. The winner was
Uri Barbash's miniseries The
Kastner Episode.
In another new category, Ash-
er Tlalim's Al Tigu Li BaShoa
("Don't Touch the Holocaust")
was singled out from among 21
documentary films for the best
documentary award.
The Academy honored Men-
achem Golan with a life achieve-
ment award for his contribution
to the Israeli film industry.

Pissarro Exhibit
In Israel

Camille Pissarro (1830-1903), the
renowned Jewish Impressionist
painter, is the subject of a new Is-
rael Museum exhibit that traces
the various stages of the artist's
development, from his early
works on his native island of St.
Thomas to the rural and urban
scenes he painted before his
death.
The show, the largest ever ded-
icated to the painter, includes
paintings shown publicly for the
first time.
