Workshops at the Ein Yael museum offer a taste of the past.
and the Israel Antiquities Au-
thority have restored the estate,
capturing as much of the origi-
nal as possible. The site now in-
cludes a biblical farm in which
participants learn to cultivate,
harvest and thresh crops using
channel irrigation. A highlight of
the agricultural year is the
process of olive picking and the
production of golden olive oil from
the site's press. Children enjoy
milking the goats and partici-
pating in the production of goats'
cheese.
In addition, Ein Yael features
archaeological workshops that
immerse visitors into excavating,
collecting, washing, classifying
and photographing artifacts. ❑
Dance Competition Held In Israel
Thirteen companies from Eu-
rope, the United States, South
America, Asia and Israel re-
cently participated in a week-
long competition and celebration
of dance at the Suzanne Dellal
Dance and Theater Center in
Tel Aviv.
As part of the Center's fifth
anniversary celebration, the
Batsheva Dance Company
performed in a seven-hour
marathon, featuring highlights
from the company's repertoire.
The prize for best choreography
in the competition went to Juan
Carlos Garcia for his "Eco de Si-
lenci." Carlos Alberto Cidra and
Uri Ivgi received prizes for best
artist.
The Suzanne Dellal Center
also recently hosted "Farewell
to Fellini — A Tribute to Dance."
Inspired by the Italian director,
the program featured works by
10 young Israeli choreographers.

erusalem — The Ein Yael
Living Museum in
Jerusalem offers a "hands-
on" biblical experience. Vis-
itors can create their own
mosaics, harvest crops as if they
were farmers living 2,000 years
ago, practice ancient crafts such
as weaving, basketmaking and
pottery and participate in ar-
chaeological excavations.
Located in southern
Jerusalem's Refaim Valley, Ein
Yael is on the site of a second-cen-
tury Roman villa replete with
bathhouses, mosaic floors, an
olive press and aqueducts and
reservoirs for irrigating the sur-
rounding fields.
