Talent Night

Congregation B'nai Moshe and
the Ahava (members between the
ages of 40 and 60) group will pre-
sent a talent night at the syna-
gogue. The sing-along, which will
be held Saturday, Feb. 25, will
feature the return of the Elder-
ly Brothers and the talent of B'nai
Moshe members. Refreshments

the story of the difficulties of
growing up in a world that has
become insane, will be the fea-
tured book in the next Book Bites
discussion series on Tuesday,
Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
Sponsored by the Cultural
Commission of Congregation
Beth Achim, this session will be
held at the Midrasha Center for
Adult Jewish Education, 21550
West Twelve Mile Road in South-
field. Julie Solomon, an instruc-
tor at the Midrasha, will lead the
discussion.

Learning Minyan
On The Sh'ma
The Agency For Jewish Education
will sponsor the second of three
Jewish educators' learning
minyan 'The Sh"ma and Its Bless-
ings," presented by Rabbi William
Gershon of Congregation Shaarey
Zedek. This event, part of the an-
nual Nirim Professional Enrich-
ment Program for Jewish
educators, will be held Wednes-
day, Feb. 22, from 7 to 9:00 p.m.
at Congregation Shaarey Zedek
in Southfield.
Each Learning Minyan is pre-
sented by a different rabbi from
the community. They are facili-
tated by Elissa Berg, education di-
rector at Temple Kol Ami, with
music by Raquel P. Gershon and
Shawn Locke from the Agency For
Jewish Education. Each minyan
provides participants with the op-
portunity to experience and learn
about telfillah (prayer) in sup-
portive environment. Discussion
includes the choreography of the
service and an exploration of the
similarities and differences be-
tween Reform and Conservative
Siddurim. Teachers also partici-
pate in a Ma'ariv service. and
learn about a particular prayer or
ritual from the rabbi.

Newcomers to the metropolitan
Detroit area are invited to a get-
together with Shalom Detroit
on Thursday, Feb. 23, 9:15 - 11:30
a.m. at the Janice Charach
Epstein Museum in the
Maple/Drake Jewish Communi-
ty Center.
Sponsored by the Women's
Division of the Jewish Federa-
tion, Shalom Detroit welcomes
new residents to the communi-
ty while providing an opportu-
nity for them to make new
friends.
Guests also will have the op-
portunity to tour the Center and
view the paintings of Robert
Schefman, as well as view the
photography display "Resistance
and Rescue" sponsored by the
Thanks to Scandinavia organi-
zation.
Coffee and bagels will be
served. Free babysitting will be
