Dawn Hewitt, the Jewish
Community Center mas-
ters swimming team did
well in a Jan. 29 meet in Jack-
son.
Hewitt, 29, the coach of
the JCC youth swimming team
and a former collegiate All-
American, captured the 200
backstroke in the women's 25-
29 age division in 2:21.49, shat-
tering the old state mark of
2:25.8 set in 1982.
That's not all. The new moth-
er also won the 50 backstroke in
31.40, the 100 backstroke in
1:08.11 and the 200 IM in
2:31.90.
Here's how other JCC swim-
mers fared:
Tamar Wekselblatt (women
20-24): First in the 200 back-
stroke in 2:50.14 and third in
the 50 backstroke in 35.89, 100
backstroke in 1:18.79 and 200
IM in 2:59.08.
Beth Robinson (women 30-
34): First in the 1000 freestyle
in 16:46.86, second in the 100
freestyle in 1:25.80 and fourth
in the 50 freestyle in 38.29.
Ricardo Schaffner (men 25-
29): Second in the 1650 freestyle
in 21:18.5. Also swam 2:18.0 in
the 200 freestyle.
Jerry Chandler (men 35-39):
Fifth in the 200 freestyle in
2:44.10 and sixth in the 50
freestyle in 30.11 and 100
freestyle in 1:10.74.
Jeff Levitt (men 35-39): Sec-
ond in the 100 freestyle in
1:00.88 and 200 freestyle in
2:17.18, third in the 1000
freestyle in 14:08.32 and fourth
in the 50 freestyle in 27.18.
Mark Gruskin (men 40-44):
Third in the 1650 freestyle in
27:29.51 and sixth in the 50
freestyle in 34.79. Also swam
1:20.00 in the 100 freestyle.
Curt Norman (men 40-44):
Seventh in the 50 freestyle in
34.88.
Steve Seligson (men 45-49):
Second in the 200 freestyle
(no time available) and
1000 freestyle in 14:12.47 and
fourth in the 50 freestyle in
29.74.
Jay Robinson (men 55-59):
Second in the 100 freestyle
in 1:21.01 and third in the
200 freestyle in 3:25.40. Also
swam 31:05.91 in the 1650
freestyle.
Richard Gale (men 70-74):
First in the 50 breaststroke in
52.31, 100 breaststroke in
1:58.29 and 200 breaststroke in
4:13.75.
JCC swimmers picked up one
first place and two runnerup fin-
