Inflation Hits
18 Percent

Inflation in Judea and Samaria,
excluding housing, soared 18 per-
cent last year, compared with
12.2 percent in Israel.
This was due to the steep
hikes in the price of fruits and
vegetables, the Central Bureau
of Statistics reported.
Fruit and vegetable prices
shot up 83.4 percent last year in
Judea and Samaria, compared
with 56.1 percent in Israel.
Because the population in
Judea and Samaria is much
poorer than Israel's, the effect of
food prices on the territories' con-
sumer basket is much greater.
