YOU AND YOUR DOCTOR: PARTNERS FOR GOOD HEALTH right-wing National Democratic Party. Mr. Goldstein, vice president of the International Auschwitz Committee, said the spontaneous chain of candles that popped up in major German cities several years ago to protest arson attacks by neo-Nazi skinheads on homes belonging to Turkish immigrants was a positive sign. But overall, he said, "there have not been enough lessons learned from Auschwitz." Citing two specific cases, he questioned why a former guard at the Ravensbruck women's con- centration camp was given a reparations payment by the Ger- man government while a former concentration camp inmate from Eastern Europe could not receive asylum here. Mr. Goldstein said he believed that the ongoing public discus- sion as to whether Germans have mastered their past is ill-focused. "A past cannot be mastered," Mr. Goldstein said. "It has to be confronted." And 50 years after the war, he said, the Germans have yet to confront their past. Mezuzah Check From Chabad Jerusalem (JTA) — The princi- pal of a Jerusalem high school that is mourning the deaths of former students ejected six mem- bers of the Chabad movement who reportedly were checking mezuzot in the building to see whether the school's luck could be changed. Six graduates from Rene Kassen High School were killed during their army service this year, the most recent loss sus- tained in the terrorist attack at Beit Lid Junction near Netanya. Students this week spotted Chabad members checking mezuzot in the building to see whether they were kosher. The students alerted the principal. Mr. Gabai told the Israeli dai- ly Ha'aretz that he received phone calls from people suggest- ing that changing the school's name might change its luck. Mr. Gabai also had words for leaders in the fervently Orthodox Agudat Yisrael Party, who this. week said the soldiers killed in the terror attack at Beit Lid Junc- tion had died because they had broken the Sabbath. "It is inconceivable that in the 20th century, someone would think that one of these flowers, who contributed to the state, died because of violation of the Sab- bath or because the mezuzot are not good," Mr. Gabai said. A Chabad spokesman said he was unaware of the incident at the school. But, he added, it is worthwhile for a school to make sure that its mezuzot are kosher.
