didn't have at
camp," Ms. Schu-
man said. "When we
met, I offered him a
bite. Now, we al-
ways joke about ap-
ples."
When camp end-
ed, Mr. Schuman
went to Israel and
Ms. Schuman head-
ed back to school.
For 2 1/2 years they
kept in touch. She
still has all of his letters.
Eventually, both returned to
Michigan and were married in
May of 1975.
Liz Franklin and Jason
Rosen knew each for years —
eight of them. Both worked at
Willoway Day Camp and were
friends from the beginning.
Three years ago they started
dating. They got engaged last
June.
"It seems pretty normal for
couples to meet at camp," Mr.
Rosen said. "You can really get
to know a person by spending
six or nine weeks with them in
a camp setting."
Camp offers the potential of
spending a lot of time with an-
other person, according to Ms.
Klausner.
"The element of time is much
different at camp. Knowing
someone for a month is like
knowing them for a year," she
said.
