The darkest,
richest sin

By Marlene Sorosky

ASSION. OBSESSION. JOY.

These may sound like perfumes to

some, but to others, they describe the sensuous pleasures derived from
chocolate. Here are some gifts for the chocolate lover to give from your heart.
Warning: Timid souls should turn the page. These sensuous sensations are for
the strong and bold— die-hard chocoholics who would kill for their fix. If you're
tired of watching your diet and sick of lectures on reducing fat and cholesterol, then
you're ready to take the plunge— at least temporarily— into chocolate decadence.
The first offering, an Ebony, Ivory and Milk Chocolate Torte, is filled with not

one but three kinds of chocolate. With its thick, rich, fudgy chocolate frosting, and
garnish of tricolor chocolate triangles, it is the apogee of chocolate tortedom.
Chocolate Pecan Tart with Caramel Sauce is the most popular dessert served

at Faz, a romantic restaurant in Danville, Calif. I've watched chocolate devotees
swoon over this one. A crunchy pecan crust is filled with a chocolate cream so
rich it makes your teeth shiver. And to increase the pleasure, each slice is drowned

in a pool of lush caramel.
If your preference is for smooth, creamy, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate, noth-
ing compares to a great mousse. I've never found one I like better than my Choco-
late Mocha Mousse with its hint of coffee and Kahlua. Its bold chocolate flavor
lingers on the palate long after the last bite. To gild the lily, scoop the mousse into
balls and drop onto a puddle of caramel sauce.
For something simple but still very elegant, dip fresh or dried fruits in melted
dark or white chocolate. They are a snap to prepare, especially when you melt

the chocolate in the microwave.
Perishable dipped fruits such as fresh oranges, grapefruit and strawberries can
be refrigerated overnight, but dried fruits can be refrigerated for at least a week.
Use them as garnish, serve them on their own, or give them as gifts.
However you choose to serve these luscious desserts, they are a very special way

of saying "I love you."
