Panel Talks
Media Impact

Trip Preview,
Film At JCC

Do the media really have an im-
pact on elections? How much does
the public have a right to know?
Are the media biased? These
and other questions will be ad-
dressed at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday,
Feb. 22 in the Max M. Fisher
Building.
The panel discussion of "The
Influence of the Media on the Po-
litical Process," sponsored by the
Young Adult Division of the Jew-
ish Federation, will be led by
Mort Meisner, WJBK TV-2 news
director; Steve Mitchell, chair-
man of Mitchell Research &
Communications, Inc. a public re-
lations, political consulting and
polling firm; and Bill Brodhead,
a former member of the U.S.
House of Representatives from
1974-1982.
There is no charge, and a
dessert reception will be held af-
ter the event. Reservations are
required by Feb. 15.

Preview of trip to Britain with
Ken Lawrence will meet 1 p.m.
Sunday, Feb. 5 at the Maple/
Drake Jewish Community Cen-
ter to discuss the May 25 British
Highlights trip. Refreshments
will be served. No charge.
The first in a two-part film se-
ries dealing with the importance
of Yiddish culture in the lives of
Jewish Americans will feature
The Forward: From Immigrants
to Americans 1 p.m. Tuesday,
Feb. 7, and 1 p.m. Feb. 21.

Jewish Teacher
Seminars Feb. 5

The Agency for Jewish Education
will offer a variety of workshops
to introduce afternoon school
teachers to new teaching skills
and innovative techniques. The
Erev Limud is scheduled for 3-5
p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5 at Temple
Emanu-El.
The workshops are part of the
AJE's Nirum Professional En-
richment Program for Jewish
educators.
"Children of Interfaith and
Conversionary Families in the
Classrom" will be held by Lena
Romanoff, author of Your People,
My People as well as the founder
of the Jewish Converts and In-
terfaith Network.
Rosie Koenig, music educator,
and Laura Pershin, professional
storyteller, will present "Jewish
Tunes and Tales."
"From Reading to Reading
Fluency" will be presented by Dr.
Elana Izraeli, district coordina-
tor for testing and English as a
second language and bilingual
educaton in the West Bloomfield
school district.
Farryl Hadari, founder of the
Israeli Puppetry Center, will lead
"Shadows of the Bible." Partici-
pants will lead a step-by-step ap-
proach to creating the puppets
and the stage and how to effec-
tively use the puppets in retelling
the story.
There is no fee for the Erev

Classes Held
At The JCC

The Jewish Community Center,
Maple/Drake will hold a class on
"Biblical Art — An Historic Per-
spective" with Irving Berg, on
Thursday, Feb. 2, at 1:00 p.m.
There is a charge for non-
members.
Stepparent Connection for cou-
ples who are part of a blended
family, will meet on Thursday,
Feb. 2 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. No
charge.
Hearing Loss Support Group _
meets on Tuesdays, Feb. 7 and
21, at 1 p.m., facilitated by David
Lauffman of Deaf and Hearing
Impaired Service.
The Writer's Workshop with
Russell Levine will take place on
Monday, Feb. 13, and every sec-
ond Monday each month at 7:30
p.m. It will emphasize short
stories, essays and poetry. There
is a non-member charge.

JPI Hosts
Open House

The Jewish Parents Institute
(JPI), an alternative Jewish Sun-
day school, will hold an open
house on Sunday, Feb. 5 from 10
a.m.-12:15 p.m. at the Jewish
Community Center Maple/Drake
building in Room 150 for prospec-
tive members. For further infor-

Inter-Marriage
Workshop

A workshop on "Making Inter-
cultural Marriage Work" will
take place on Saturday, Feb. 11,
from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Birm-
ingham Temple.
Sherwin Wine, rabbi of the
Birmingham Temple, will pro-
vide the introduction. The work-
shops will be facilitated by Rabbi
Wine, Judith Schneider and Ja-
nis Levin-Gorelick.
There is a charge. Lunch will
