Plans Firmed

The American Jewish Joint Dis-
tribution Committee (JDC), De-
troit's major partner serving
overseas communities, is re-
cruiting volunteers for their Jew-
ish Service Corps to serve in
Bombay, India; Sofie, Bulgaria;
and Casablanca, Morocco.
Volunteers will work with chil-
dren and young adults in orga-
nizing Jewish educational, cul-
tural, social and religious pro-
grams to promote Jewish identity
and practice.
Participants must be willing to
make a one-year commitment,
speak fluent Hebrew (French if
interested in working in Moroc-
co), possess skills in community
youth work and informal Jewish
education,and want to live in and
experience a new culture.
The JDC will cover all travel,
housing, medical coverage and
expenses for the volunteers.

The deadline is nearing for full
payment to guarantee a place on
Michigan Miracle Mission II to
Israel May 7-17. Payments must
be mailed or brought to the Mis-
sion office, 6735 Telegraph, Suite
206, Bloomfield Hills, by Feb. 1.
Although the trip is fully sub-
scribed, names are being accept-
ed first-come, first-serve on the
waiting list for the community-
wide mission.Those who sign up
on the waiting list now will have
a good chance of joining 866 fel-
low travelers on a fun-filled trip
of a lifetime.
The mission is sponsored by
the Jewish Federation of Metro-
politan Detroit in cooperation
with The Jewish News, congre-
gations and organizations
throughout the state of Michigan.

As part of their itinerary, mis-
sion goers will visit the Central
Galilee Region which has been
teamed up with Detroit's Jewish
community through the new peo-
ple-to-people program called
Partnership 2000. The region in-
cludes the cities of Nazareth Illit
and Migdal HaEmek and the
Jezreel Valley.
Visitors to the region also can
view a glass factory owned by De-
troit philanthropist William
Davidson and Nahalal, one of Is-
rael's oldest moshavim.
