They were among the Camp
Maas campers who signed up with
their bunks to climb a 50-foot wood
tower last summer.
"Climbing this tower is a tremen-
dous personal challenge," said super-
visor Neil Katz to this particular group
of guys from Exodus Bunk 6. "Not all
of you will get to the top, but that's cool.

further and then taking one more step.
Here you cannot fail."
Before campers strapped on a hel-
met and a harness, Mr. Katz talked
about safety and assured the climbers
there was no way they could fall.
These now-seventh-grade boys took
turns climbing the tower and rap-
pelling down. Each one took a few min-
utes.
Once on the ground, some of the
climbers said they were a little
nervous but were anxious to do it
again.
