est-selling author Judith Viorst will discuss the choices she and all women
face about family, friendship and Jewish issues at the second annual
CHOICES event on March 14 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Adat Shalom Syn-
agogue.
Sponsored by the Women's Division of the Jewish Federation of Metro-
politan Detroit and co-sponsored by Jacobson's, CHOICES is an education-
al outreach and fund-raising event aimed at motivating women to become
actively involved in or give on behalf of the Jewish Federation's Allied Jew-
ish Campaign.
Ms. Viorst's publishing credits include six best-selling collections of adult
poems, 11 children's books, and three books of prose.
The event requires a minimum pledge on behalf of the Jewish Federation's 1995 Al-
lied Jewish Campaign. There is a charge for lunch.
Baby-sitting for ages 2 and up is available upon request. Reservations are needed by Feb. 1.

Hears Borman
n Jan. 22 at a Jewish Historical Society meeting, Marlene Bor-
man will give a first-hand account of the Jewish community she
met in Azerbaijan as well as in Cochin, India, while on recent mis-
sions for the Joint Distribution Committee.
Her talk, "Jewish Journeys: Baku, Azerbaijan and Cochin, India —
and on to Petra, Jordan!" will be presented at 2 p.m. at the Max Fish-
er Building, 6735 Telegraph Road.
Ms. Borman sits on the Africa-Asia committee of the national Joint
Distribution Committee. She is president of the Hebrew Free Loan
Society of Metropolitan Detroit and is a past president of the Women's
Division of the Jewish Federation. She and her husband Paul are ac-
tive members of the Jewish Historical Society of Michigan.
Tapes of Bukharan Jewish music of Central Asia, sponsored by
the Smithsonian Institute, will play before and after the speech. Cof-
fee, tea, and treats will be served. There is no fee for paid-up members
of the Jewish Historical Society at this open meeting. A membership
table will be available.
