STAFF REPORT

he Great Jewish Children's
Expo, the world's first trav-
eling Jewish museum, is
touring North America and
will stop from Jan. 21-29 at the
Maple/Drake Jewish Communi-
ty Center in West Bloomfield.
Employing the methods and
technology of today's sophisticat-
ed children's museums, the Great
Jewish Children's Expo provides
an overview of Jewish history,
past and present, and an in-depth
look at many holidays and prac-
tices. Robotics, moving dioramas,
pop-outs, animated scenes, aqua
sculpture and artwork are com-
bined to impart a multifaceted
experience to today's children and
families.
The. Expo walks participants
through an extensive maze of ex-
hibits to experience the Six DayS
of Creation, feel the pain of
bondage in Egypt and the joy of
the Passover redemption, con-
struct the Temple with King
Solomon and conduct a secret
seder in Auschwitz. A special ex-
hibit illustrates how each mitz-
vah has a positive impact on the
world.

At the end of the fully narrat-
ed and charted walking tour, an
arts and crafts workshop provides
the children with a hands-on op-
portunity to create a permanent
memento of their educational ex-
perience. Additionally, a live
game show, modeled after TV's
"Classic Concentration," allows
them to test their newly acquired
knowledge.
