SIMON GALED won two indi-
vidual events and was a member
of a victorious relay quartet, help-
ing the Berkley High School boys
swimming squad capture the
championship of the eight-team
Walled Lake Invitational on Jan.
14.
The senior took the 50 freestyle
in 22.88 and the 100 freestyle in
50.68. He also was on the 200
medley relay team which won in
1:43.70.
In Berkley's 114-69 dual meet
loss to Rochester on Jan. 12,
Galed was involved in four victo-
ries. He won the 50 in 22.66 and
the 100 in 50.47 and he was on
the victorious 200 medley relay
and 200 freestyle relay squads.
The relays were timed in 1:45.41
and 1:35.16, respectively.
Galed won the 50 in 22.73 and
the 100 in 50.43 in the Bears' 102-
84 dual meet loss to Farmington
on Jan. 10. He also was on
Berkley's victorious 200 medley
relay team which was clocked in
1:44.9.
Last year, Galed placed in the
50 and 100 freestyle in the Class
A state meet. He's expected to be
a top contender in those events
this season.

DAVE STEGMAN helped the
West Bloomfield High School
boys swimming team defeat
Birmingham Seaholm 107-76 on
Jan. 10 by winning the 100 but-
terfly in 57.6.
He also was a member of the
victorious 200 medley relay and
400 freestyle relay squads. Those
foursomes were timed in 1:48.97
and 3:35.72, respectively.
Also for the Lakers, JEREMY
HERTZA won the diving corn-
petition with 228.75 points and
ADAM ROSENDER joined
Stegman in the 400 freestyle re-
lay group.
In West Bloomfield's 98.5 to
87.5 victory over Farmington on
Jan. 5, Stegman took the 200 IM
in 2:07.61 and the 100 butterfly
in 54.79. He also was on the 200
medley relay team which won in
1:47.83. Hertza was best in div-
ing with 259.40 points.

Sophomores AMY KOHN and
MEAGAN PITT, junior LAU-
RIE ZYLA and senior ME-
LISSA LOEB of Berkley High
School earned berths on the Oak-
land Activities Association All-
Academic Team for fall sports.
Kohn (4.0 grade-point average)
and Pitt (3.9) were on the girls
swimming team, Zyla (3.8) played
girls tennis and Loeb (3.7) was on
the cheerleading squad.

JEFF JACOB scored 16 points
— including back-to-back triples
