"They looked around and were amazed," relates Doris Lang, the sales man- ager. 'They said, There's nothing like this in Switzerland!" The two visitors from Boston z who came in had a similar reac- tion. 'They said, There are many 0 a Jewish bookstores in America, • but we never saw one like this — 0 0 with so many Jewish booksr ." m "We try to show the whole range of Judaism, not only reli- • m gious or Orthodox subjects but all z aspects," says Ms. Lang, who ma- z jored in literature at the univer- —4 sity of Bonn. Although she's not C z Jewish, her two years at the 1 71 bookstore have given her a spe- 0 cial expertise in books of Jewish - is book about the Jews of East- em Europe. And because this is a bookstore in Germany, there's also a spe- cial emphasis on books about German-Jewish issues: A book about the Jews of Munich and another titled Frauen in Konzen- traslagan, about women in the death camps of Bergen-Belsen and Ravensbruck, are promi- nently displayed. In all, the store carries an es- timated 7000 titles — in German, English, Hebrew and Yiddish. All of them are listed in a general cat- alogue with yearly supplements added. Besides its books, the store also carries compact discs and cas- settes of Jewish music, from can- torial to klezmer. Titles include "The West End Klezmorim" and "Odessa Express," featuring both Yiddish and Klezmer music, and "The Art of Cantor Josef Rosen- blatt" and "Jewish Soul Music." With such an extensive collec- tion, the store draws a diverse group of customers. They are young and old, scholars and stu- dents, Munich residents and oth-
