It will be about college students interested in Yiddish. "I'm deciding whether to do a documentary or fictional narra- tive," said Ms. Weiner, who learned Yiddish while at U-M and followed up with an inten- sive summer course at Columbia. "Yiddish culture is very inter- esting to me because I see my up- bringing as part of Yiddish culture. I also find it interesting A five-minute start to a career. that people of my generation who did not grow up in Yiddish- speaking households suddenly want to study this language. "I would love to use my Yid- dish, but I can't find people who want to speak it." To the film, Ms. Weiner will bring day-to-day interactions she encountered while interning at the National Yiddish Book Cen- ter in Massachusetts. During her eight-week as- signment, she sorted and filed books for the non-profit organi- zation, whose mission is to col- lect, sell and reintegrate these volumes. The ultimate goal in- volves bringing Yiddish culture more prominently into American life. As Ms. Weiner goes after her dream career, she is very grate- ful for the support and encour- agement of her parents, Carole and Ronald Weiner, particularly when she finds herself between the temporary office jobs that help underwrite her creative pri- orities. "At this point in my career, I am really where I wanted to be," Ms. Weiner said. n Anita Weiner'Im wall shown diiting;!:.:a. two movie marathon starting at.:. p am Friday; Jan;:. 27, at th0.:: Magic Bag in Ferndale.
