Shir Shalom
School Update

Fourth graders of Temple Shir
Shalom will have a shul-in Jan.
14. The students will experience
a Havdalah service and partici-
pate in a Bible heroes workshop.
Jan. 15 is the date of the fifth
graders to participate in a mock
Jewish wedding ceremony as
part of their life cycle study. Rab-
bi Schwartz and Cantor Berman
will be a part of the ceremony as
they explain the customs, sym-
bols and practices. A reception
will follow the service.
The pre-kindergarten through
fifth grades will visit the Great
Jewish Children's Expo at the
JCC on Jan. 22.
The January 28 hot/tot Shab-
bat program will be provided by
the fourth graders. The topic will
be Bible heroes.
A field trip to the Holocaust
Center will be attended by sixth
graders and their families on Jan.

Society Meets

The Jewish Genealogical So-
ciety of Michigan will host Dou-
glas Casamer, director of the
Macomb Department of Veter-
ans Affairs, at a meeting Jan. 15
at 2 p.m. at Temple Beth El. At
1:30 p.m., there will be a special
help session for those just start-
ing out in Jewish genealogy, and
a question-and-answer session
with the speaker will conclude
the meeting.
Mr. Casamer will discuss ac-
cessing military records available
from World War I and II, Korea,
Vietnam and other conflicts. He
is the author of Military Records
and Documentation for the Ge-
nealogical Researcher.
