Beginning in January and con-
tinuing through March, Jewish
Parents Institute's students in
Clubs 2-7 will have the opportu-
nity to get a taste of the Hebrew
language. Beth Dzodin, the b'nai
mitzvah instructor, will provide
instruction through drama, im-
provisation and conversational
vignettes.
As part of the b'nai mitzvah
curriculum, b'nai mitzvah stu-
dents will begin their study of the
. Talmud and Torah in January.
This, combined with a commu-
nity-related work project, a study
of selected pieces of literature,
and a research project, will cul-
minate in a rite of passage cere-
mony shared by the students,
their families and guests.
On Jan. 22 at 11 a.m., the Jew-
ish Parents Institute will present
its bi-annual Tu B'Shevat seder.
'This family event will feature
readings from JPI's Hagagadah.
Purim Workshop
At The ME
The Agency for Jewish Education
will host a Creativity Night for
afternoon school teachers titled
"A Potpourri of Purim Family
Fun" on Jan. 18 from 7-9 p.m. at
the AJE in Southfield. This
hands-on workshop will intro-
duce teachers to new ways of in-
volving children and their
families in Purim activities. Par-
ticipants will make and bring
back to their classrooms Purim
puppet groggers, stories and
songs and other activities to teach
about Purim. The workshop will
be presented by Raquel P. Ger-
son, director of the AJE Teachers
Resource Center; Sue Stettner,
director; and Julia Greenblatt,
associate of Jewish Experiences
for Families (JEFF).
The Creativity Nights are part
of the AJE's NIRIM Profession-
al Enrichment Program for Jew-
ish educators. There is no charge
for the workshop. For informa-
