Dr. Jeffrey Taub is the recipi-
ent of a Young Investigator
Award from the American Soci-
ety of Clinical Oncology. He is
conducting leukemia research at
the Michigan Cancer Founda-
tion. Dr. Taub is an assistant pro-
fessor at Wayne State University
and an associate hematologist
and oncologist at Children's Hos-
pital of Michigan. Dr. Taub grad-
uated the University of Western
Ontario Medical School and com-
pleted his residency and fellow-
ship at Children's Hospital of
Michigan.
Dr. Yefim Levy recently was
welcomed by Sinai Hospital's am-
bulatory services division. Flu-
ent in Russian, Dr. Yefim has a
specialty in internal medicine
and has joined the office of Dr.
Vladimir Klemptner.

Dr. Max Cohen
Dr. Max Cohen joined north-
west Detroit's Grace Hospital in
December as chief of surgery. He
brings more than 22 years of
practice experience to Grace,
The Oakland County Medical
Society elected new officers who
were installed at the annual
meeting of the 1,500 physician-
member society. Dr. Stanley
Dorfman succeeds Dr. Murray
Levin as president of the pro-
fessional organization. Dr. Dorf-
man specializes in obstetrics and
gynecology with offices in Bloom-
field Hills and Clarkston. Dr.
Jerome Rose will serve as pres-
ident-elect of the Society. Also
specializing in obstetrics and gy-
necology, Dr. Rose practices in
Royal Oak.
Dr. Bruce Pearlman, a senior
scientist in chemical process re-
search and development with the
Upjohn Company, has been
named one of four 1994 winners
of the Upjohn Achievement in
Science and Medicine Award. Dr.
Pearlman was recognized for his
design and development of new
processes for the commercial syn-
thesis of a critical subunit of Free-
dox, an Upjohn compound
currently in development for the
treatment of stroke, head injury
and spinal cord injury. The
award also is based on Dr. Pearl-
man's work on the company's
AIDS compounds and his earli-
er contributions to the design of
chemical production processes for
prostaglandins and corticos-
teroids.
Al Nagel, director of physician
services, and Dr. Jesse
Krakauer of Osteoporosis Test-
ing Center in Southfield, had an
abstract on DEXA bone densito-
metry accepted for publication
and review at the Society of Clin-
ical Densitometry First Annual
Scientific Meeting held in Wash-
ington, D.C., last December. The
Society of Clinical Densitometry
is a multidisciplinary group that
furthers research in osteoporosis
and bone disease.
