Plan Shabbat

The sisterhood of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek will mark its 15th
annual Sisterhood Shabbat Jan.
21 at 9 a.m. This special service
will celebrate 90 years of the sis-
terhood's service to the synagogue
and the community.
Rusty Rosman, sisterhood
president, will address the con-
gregation. Torah readers include:
Marcia Boman, Janet Pont, Ar-
lene Rein, Judy Blumeno, Karen
A. Katz, Ellen Labes, Debbie
Balkin, Ruthe Goldstein, Ronnie
Tischler Robinson and Marjorie
Saulson. Last aliyah and maftir
will be chanted by Marlene Mar-
. golis, and the Haftorah will be
chanted by Raquel Gershon. Sis-
terhood members will participate
in the service.
A special extended kiddush for
the congregation will follow the
service.

Program Set
On Mourning

The men's clubs of Congregation
Beth Shalom, Congregation Beth
Achim and Congregation
Shaarey Zedek will present a pro-
gram describing the Conserva-
tive Jewish approach to death,
funeral, grieving, shiva, mourn-
ing, and comforting with Rabbi
Leonardo Bitran of Shaarey
Zedek, Rabbi Herbert Yoskowitz
of Beth Achim, Robert Bodzin of
Hebrew Memorial Chapel, and
David Techner of Ira Kaufman
Funeral Chapel. The program
will begin at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at
Congregation Beth Shalom.
The program will be based on
the book A Time to Mourn, A
Time to Comfort by Dr. Ron Wolf-
son. There is a charge for the
book; there is no charge for the
evening.

Family Ties
Are Noted

Congregation Beth Achim will
hold a program titled "A Cele-
bration of Family Ties" Jan. 21
from 10-11:30 a.m. at the syna-
gogue.
This program is designed to
feature the students of the Beth
Achim branch of the Congrega-
tional Religious School with a
special tribute to their grand-
parents or another special per-
son in their lives. Light
refreshments will be served.

program is being co-sponsored by
Jewish Experience For Families.
