Kitchen Shower
At Beth Achim

The Michigan Region of Women's
American ORT will sponsor a
tour, "Jewish History Through
Art," at the Detroit Institute of
Arts Jan. 29. Lunch will be at
11:30 a.m. and the docent tour will
begin at 12:30 p.m. There is a
charge for the docent tour. Lunch
is extra. Carpools will be arranged.

On Feb. 1, Autumn Hills
Chapter of Women's American
ORT will hold an evening meeet-
ing. Guest speakers will be from
the Michigan Cancer Society. The
topic will be "Preventive Care."

The Sisterhood and Cultural
Commission of Congregation
Beth Achim have decided to re-
furbish the kitchen at the syna-
gogue. On Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m.,
they will host a Kitchen Shower
and Cooking Demonstration.
Mimi Markofsky, professional
baker, party manager and a
member of the Sperber Kosher
Catering Staff, will prepare a low-
fat, vegetarian menu which will
later be served for dinner.
There is a charge for the
evening's activities. A portion of
the cost will go towards the pur-
chase of serving pieces, cooking
equipment and other utensils to
refurbish the Beth Achim
kitchen.

to the synagogue, 352-8670. All
non-members are welcome to at-
tend.

Hadassah
Meets Rabbis

The Greater Detroit Chapter of
Hadassah will host members and
friends to meet the rabbis "new"
to our community in a lunch and
learn series. The first series of two
lectures will begin Jan. 18 with
Rabbi Steven Weil of Young Israel
of Greenfield who will speak on
"Beyond the Ten Command-
ments: Judaism vs. Christianity."
On Feb. 15, Rabbi Daniel
Nevins of Congregation Adat
Shalom will speak on "My Pas-
sage to India."
The talks will be held at
Hadassah House, 5030 Orchard
Lake Road, West Bloomfield from
11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. A kosher lunch
will be served. Reservations are
limited and there is a charge.
The second series will be held
March 29 with Rabbi Herbert
Yoskowitz of Congregation Beth
Achim and on April 19 with Rab-
bi Joshua Bennett of Temple Is-
rael.

Party Planning
Showcase Set

The seventh annual Party Plan-
ning Showcase sponsored by the
sisterhood of Temple Beth El will
be Jan. 29. From 10 a.m. through
4 p.m., the temple will take on a
party atmosphere as more than
30 local exhibitors dish out sam-
ple hors d'oeuvres and desserts,
fill the air with music and the
aroma of floral bouquets and dis-
play their wares.
A free guide containing the
names and addresses of the ser-
vice providers will be given each
showcase visitor for easy at-home
access to those skilled in creating
a successful event. The Party
Planning Showcase is open to the
public at no charge.

Phonathon
For Federation

The Jewish Federation's
Women's Division needs women
to volunteer on Jan. 22-24 for the
division's annual Phonogift
phonathon on behalf of the 1995
Allied Jewish Campaign.
Women will share in the uni-
ty and pride of the Jewish com-
munity while providing needed
clerical and phone solicitation du-
ties Jan. 22, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; Jan.
23, 4-6:30 p.m. and Jan. 24, 4-9
p.m. The three-day phonathon
will take place at the Max M.
Fisher Building. A light break-
fast or dinner will be provided on
each day.
Women's Division provides ed-
ucational and volunteer outreach
opportunities for women residing
throughout the metropolitan De-
troit area.

New Group
For ORT

The newest chapter of Women's
American ORT, Ko-ach, will have
an installation of the officers Jan.
24 at 7 p.m. at 4415 Rolling Pine
in West Bloomfield. The instal-
lation will feature a potluck din-
ner and grab bag bingo.
Janet Berman, chairman of
the Executive Committee for
Michigan Region, will install the
incoming board members. Non-
members are welcome.
