In 1987, Mr. Bradley pointed
out, the company opened the
Kmart International Center for
Retailing and Marketing at the
Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
Since then, more than 15,000 stu-
dents from North America have
either taken classes or visited the
center, Mr. Bradley said.
After finishing high school in
England, Mr. Bradley, along
with his family, immigrated to
Windsor, Ontario, in the mid-
1950s.
Mr. Bradley moved to Detroit
in 1958, the same year he volun-
teered to join the U.S. Air Force.
Even though he hasn't lived in
Windsor for nearly 40 years, Mr.
Bradley still has ties there. He's
a member of Windsor's Shaar
Hashomayim synagogue.
After he completed his oblig-
ation to the Air Force, Mr.
Bradley began working for
Kmart — then S.S. Kresge — in
1964.
"I wasn't a fly boy in the force,"
he said. "I had a desk job. When
I got out, I wanted to do some-
thing in the retail field. I start-
ed looking into management pro-
grams and I got a job as a
manager trainee at the Kresge's
store at Grand River and Fenkell
in Detroit."
As he moved up the corporate
ladder, Mr. Bradley managed
three Detroit-area Kresge stores.
He began running his first Kmart
store in Dallas in 1974. His next
stops landed him in Dayton
(Ohio), Cleveland, Madison
Heights and Chesterfield Town-
ship, where he has worked the
past dozen years and done most
of his volunteer work.
Mr. Bradley and his wife of 28
years, Dee, a director of a child-
care center in Shelby Township,
have two children: David, 26, and
Lisa, 24. David is an assistant
manager at the Kmart store in
Oak Park.
"My family, including my
brother Sidney who lives in
Farmington Hills, has been a
great help to me in my commu-
nity activities," Mr. Bradley said.
