Adat Shalom
Film Series

This year's Adat Shalom Syna-
gogue Film Series will present
two films which depict the per-
sonal struggle and group survival
of the Jewish people. The films
will be introduced and discussed
by Ira Konigsberg, director of the
program in film and video stud-
ies at the University of Michigan.
Tell Me a Riddle, set for Jan.
15, features performances by
Melvyn Douglas and Lila Kedro-
va. It portrays the story of a Russ-
ian-Jewish couple in the United
States and mixes memories of the
past with the conflicts of the pre-
sent.
Unere Kinder (Our Children),
on Jan. 22, was produced in 1948.
It was the last Yiddish feature
film made in Poland. Banned for
more than 30 years, it tells the
story of a group of children who
survived the Holocaust and stars
children who were actual sur-
vivors themselves.
Ira Konigsberg is a professor
of English, a film critic, and the
author of numerous works. He is
a member of the boards of direc-
tors of the Forum for the Psy-
choanalytic Study of Film, the
Michigan Theater, and the Ann
Arbor Summer Festival.
Both films will begin at 7 p.m.
and will be followed by coffee and
discussion. They are open to the
community at no charge. The se-
ries is sponsored by the Syna-
gogue's Adult Study Commission.
