MAIL DEPT. ... from Mark
Sophiea ... "I've read your restau-
rant column for the past year or
so and think your critiques are
usually right on the money. I
practice law downtown, eat out
more often than I care to admit,
and don't like spending an arm
and a leg for a decent meal.
Hence, my following recommen-
dation:
"I came across an attractive
but unpretentious Middle East-
ern eatery which offers a very
good meal at a fair price. It's
called La Chicken, and is located
at a Southfield Road at 12 1/2
Mile shopping center (the former
owners called it the Kabob Grill,
and it generally got favorable re-
views. The food was respectable
but a little pricey).
"I can say without equivoca-
tion that the food here is superi-
or to its predecessor and certainly
less expensive. In short, a very
good value for the dollar. The
owners, two brothers and their
mother, recent emigres from
Lebanon, prepare the food, and
it is very good indeed. They are
friendly, the service adequate,
and everyone is made to feel wel-
come. The decor isn't opulent, but
still done in tasteful pastels, high-
lighted by rich black and greens.
More importantly, the food is
pocketbook friendly.
"I don't normally write recom-
ty to dine on dishes prepared mendations, but do so since I
