Beth Shalom Jan. 21. The
cabaret-style performance will
begin at 8:30 p.m. and include re-
freshments.

Mr. Esser became famous
more than 20 years ago as direc-
tor of Detroit's first successful
cabaret-style dinner theater.
Since then, he has appeared in
over 50 original productions. Bar-
bara Bredius, his long-term part-
ner, was named "best actress" by
the Detroit Free Press and "best
vocalist" by Detroit Monthly. Also
performing will be jazz guitarist
Al Ayoub, whose many credits in-
clude music director for Mr. Ess-
er's State Fair shows and jazz
fusion guitarist with the Bug
Bedow band.

Children's Events
At Borders

Borders Book Shop, Southfield at
13 Mile, offers a variety of chil-
dren's programs especially for our
younger readers. Unless other-
wise noted, events are aimed at
children 3-7 years old.
Jan. 14 at 11 a.m.: stories per-
formed by Groves High School
and Walnut Lake Children's
Readers Theater.
Jan. 21 at 11 a.m.: Readers
Theater returns with a new se-
lection of stories performed by
student storytellers.
Jan. 28 at 11 a.m.: ''he Wild
Thing Stomps Through Borders
with a story, an activity, and
maybe a Wild Thing dance.
Jan. 29 at 2 p.m.: A Magic
School Bus Ride will include
hands-on activities with scien-
tists from the Detroit Science
Center.
Feb. 4 at 11 a.m.: African Folk
2 Tales with storyteller Elaine Gre-
gory.
