and Job; and a contemporary
analysis of the Book of Lamen-
tations.
Ms. Buchmann is an editori-
al consultant for Tikkun maga-

caust, Volume Two continues
with remarkable stories of
women who lived during the Nazi
regime.
The writings tell of a woman
who fought to reclaim a child left
in a Polish hospital during the
war, of a 13-year-old who escaped
the Auschwitz death line, and of
the women who managed to
stage a secret theatrical perfor-
mance at a labor camp in Riga.
One chapter contains Sara
Selver-Urbach's recollections of
Auschwitz, including the story of
Salusha, who dared to confront
Nazis hitting a woman.
"Why are you beating her? Ws
so unfair!"
Salusha had barely finished
her remark when the fat Kapo
burst into a wild fit of laughter.
Her underlings joined in the sick-
ening merriment.
"Fairness! She's looking for
fairness! Did you hear that?" they
screeched raucously, holding
their bellies, their faces twisted
in exaggerated mirth...
But the incident did not end
there.
Our barracks had once been a
stable and contained a long stove,
now cold, which had been used to
keep the horses warm. The Kapo
dragged Salusha out of the line-
up and made her climb on top of
