A GEM
OF A GIFT
priest!" says Tom Bosley of the
Father Dowling role he had on
Tv'f-Tather Dowling Mysteries,"
which rar,tlearly three years be-
ginning in 1989:-
Tom Bosley has fai.thThi thes-
ture — and in the importance to
his life of playing the part of per-
former. "I recently had a colosto-
my," he says of the operation
which kept him out of Beauty and
the Beast for a number of months
until recently.
`The colostomy is reversible —
it will be fixed in seven, eight
months — but it was a big ad-
justment for me," says Mr.
Bosley, who took it hard having
to handle artificially what was
once a natural function.
"But one day, I said to myself
that I'm an actor and that this is
a part I will have to play for the
next seven or eight months so I
better damn well do it."
Tom Bosley has adjusted to the
limited-run well. While this med-
ical problem is a short-term set-
back, there is one longstanding
problem that promises to plague
the actor.
A the-hard baseball fan who
feels shut out by the continuing
strike, Mr. Bosley is used to let-
downs. 'It is hard to explain why
there are such things as Cubs
fans," sighs the resigned Chica-
go native. ❑
