course of the school day, there is
nothing in the state or federal
laws or constitutions that can in-
terfere with that right," Mr. Gad-
Harf said.
Bloomfield Hills School Board
0
member Mindy Nathan and a
handful of other Oakland Coun-
ty residents went to the meeting
with intentions of speaking out
on the issue. Because of the
lengthy agenda they could not
stay for public comment. There
were no citizen speeches in favor
of the resolution.
Joining Mr. Gad-Harf in
:=0 speaking out against the proposal
was the Rev. Mark Jensen of the
North Congregational Church in
Farmington Hills.
He stressed that a student is
free to pray in school at any time
and according to his or her own
theology.
"How many students do you
think have prayed before a math
test?" Rev. Jensen said.
Mr. Gad-Harf and the Rev.
Jensen were the only non-com-
missioners to speak on the reso-
lution.
Commissioners did not know
if the issue would be brought up
again next year, but the possi-
bility was not ruled out. ❑
