Schools that participate in the program include the University . of Michigan, Columbia Universi- ty, Jewish Theological Seminary, Hebrew Union College, the Bal- timore Institute for Communal Service and Yeshiva Universi- ty. In return for full tuition and a stipend, the student agrees to work for a Jewish federation for three years after graduation. Par- tial tuition recipients make a commitment for two years. Lance Jacobs, coordinator of the program for CJF, said 50 to 60 people apply for the scholar- ships each year and approxi- mately 13 are awarded. "These students are highly re- cruited by federations because they are the best of the best," he said. Bob Aronson, executive vice president of the Jewish Federa- tion of Metropolitan Detroit, en- joys working with the students, most of whom do internships with federations as they pursue their graduate degrees. "I love working with the stu- dents because they have an en- thusiasm and youthful energy," he said. "It reminds us why we got into this work in the first place." He said the scholarship mim- ics the farm clubs of baseball, rooting out the best students and placing them in Jewish federa- tions.
