The trip, scheduled to leave for
Israel on July 5, can accommo-
date 20 participants and is open
to Jewish teens entering the 10-
12th grades. Brochures and ap-
plications will be available in a
few weeks.
"What makes this different
from other Israel trips is the
strong camping and hiking com-
ponent. It's part of the way we do
our trips at Tamarack," said Har-
vey Finkelberg, the executive di-
rector of Tamarack Camps.
Mr. Finkelberg hopes that this

crossroads in her life when
she came upon the Feder-
ation Executive Recruit-
ment and Education Program
(FEREP).
As a senior in college, her coun-
selor suggested she take her
bachelor's degree in Judaic stud-
ies, get a master's degree and go
into Jewish communal service.
The idea intrigued her but, she
thought, how to get from point A
(undergraduate program) to point
B (working at a Jewish federa-
tion)?
Now a senior planning associ-
ate with the Jewish Federation

of Metropolitan Detroit, Ms. Sil-
verman credits a lot of hard work,
a dual master's degree in Juda-
ic studies and social work and, in
part, FEREP.
"FEREP gave me the opportu-
nity to pursue the exact educa-
tion that I wanted to pursue and
it gave me a connection to the fed-
eration world that has proved to
be valuable," she said.
From now until Feb. 1, the
Council for Jewish Federations
(CJF) will accept applications for
the scholarship program.
The scholarship is a two-year
subsidized program for students
interested in pursuing graduate
