Happenings at the Maple/Drake
Jewish Community Center in-
clude on Dec. 12 at 1 p.m. The
Reverend James Lyons will dis-
cuss "What Jews Should Know
About Christians"; there is a
charge.
Guitarist Michael Bryce will
entertain at a "Holiday Luncheon
Celebration" Dec. 21 at 12:30 p.m.
with songs, stories and humor.

The Maple/Drake Jewish
Community Center will feature
the following events. The West
Bloomfield High School Jazz En-
semble on Dec. 12 will entertain
with jazz favorites; no charge.
Rabbi Nevins of Congregation
Adat Shalom will discuss the
"Jews of India" on Dec. 13 at 1
p.m.; there is a charge.
On Dec. 21 at 12:30 p.m., there
will be a holiday luncheon cele-
bration with guitarist Michael
Bryce. A buffet lunch will be
served and Mr. Bryce will enter-
tain with music, songs, stories
and humor; there is a charge.

through Dec. 22 will take place

Temple Seniors
Host Programs

America's favorite dessert and
Broadway's most favored dance
steps will be featured at two Tem-
ple Beth El senior programs in
December. On Dec. 18, the Mid-
dle Years Group will host Larry
Imerman, attorney and culinary
historian, who will discuss Amer-
ica's shimmering favorite, Jell-O.
The 1 p.m. lecture is open to the
community without charge. It
will be preceded by cake and cof-
fee at 12:30 p.m.
On Dec. 20, the Beth Elders
will be entertained by tap dancers
the Satin Dolls. The noon lun-
cheon is open to the communi-
ty. There is, a luncheon charge
and reservations are necessary.

Editor Speaks
On Paper's Role

On Dec. 11 at 1 p.m., Phil Jacobs,
editor of The Jewish News, will
address EMES (Emanu-El's Ma-
ture and Exciting Set) at Temple
Emanu-El. Mr. Jacobs who came
to Detroit in 1990 after serving
for nine years as assistant editor
at the Baltimore Jewish Times,
will speak on " The Changing
Role of the Jewish Press."
There is a charge for non-mem-

Young At Heart
Get-Together

Young at Heart seniors will have
a winter get-together noon Dec.
15 at Congregation Beth Achim.
Members and friends are invited
for bagels, rolls, coffee and cake
and a musical program featur-
ing Cantor Max Shimansky. Also,
Millie Rosenbaum will tell of her
recent visit to South Africa.

A lecture on Israel will be at the
Jimmy Prentis Morris Jewish
Community Center Dec. 13 at 1
p.m.; free of charge.
Max Sosin, comedian, will en-
tertain Dec. 15 at 1 p.m. There is

Choreographer
Holds Workshop

Benny Levy, an up and coming
Israeli folkdancer choreograph-
er and teacher, will be the guest
at this year's Israeli dance work-
shop that will take place Dec. 10-
11 in the Detroit area.
Mr. Levy is a well known
teacher in New York .
The workshop will commence
at the 10 Mile and Greenfield
JCC Dec. 10, 8 to 11 p.m. and will
continue Dec. 11 a the
Maple/Drake JCC 1:30 to 3:30
p.m. It will conclude with a ses-
sion at the B'nai B'rith Hillel of
the University of Michigan from
7:30 to 10 p.m. There is a charge.
