Halpern 50th

Estera and Leon Halpern re-
cently celebrated their 50th wed-
ding anniversary with a dinner
dance given by their children, Dr.
Iry and Edi Gastman, Dr. Eric
and Sarah Gordon and Dr. Yale

AJE Library Holds
Discussion Group

The Agency for Jewish Educa-
tion's Community Library will
begin its second series of Liter-
ary Journeys Dec. 8 from 7:30-9
p.m. at the AJE in Southfield.
This bi-weekly discussion group
is open to all who appreciate
sharing the ideas and themes of
short story literature.
During the first session, par-
ticipants will discuss The Eighty
Yard Run" by Irwin Shaw. The
series will continue Jan. 5 with
discussions on "Levitation" by
Cynthia Ozick; Jan. 26 with "A
Party in Miami Beach" by Isaac
Bashevis Singer; Feb. 16 with
"Three Thousand Years of Your
History . . . One Year for Your-
self' by Joanna Spiro. All sessions
are scheduled from 7:30-9 p.m. at
the ME. There is no charge.
The library also has new win-
ter hours: Sundays, 9:30 a.m.-
12:30 p.m.; Mondays, 10
a.m.-1:30 p.m.; Tuesdays, 5-9
p.m.; Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-1:30

p.m. The library is in need of
more volunteers.

Parenting Center
Plans Classes

Rabbi David Wolpe will talk
about "Speaking to Your Chil-
dren About God" Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.
for parents of children ages three
through adolescence.
"The Book of Esther-Women
and Assimilation" is a look at the
story of Esther with new insights.
A working knowledge of Hebrew
is NOT required. Facilitator Ruth
Bergman will lead the class from
7:30-9 p.m. Dec. 19.
