ast year, Howard Am-
binder played Santa by
default. Mr. Ambinder,
who helps with
fundraising for the St. Vincent
& Sarah Fisher Center in
Farmington Hills, had to slip
into a Santa suit after the
"real" Santa's car broke down
in route to the center's Christ-
mas party.
Mr. Ambinder said he is a
regular participant in the cen-
ter's party because it is one of
the only volunteer opportuni-
ties to be with the children.
"I do it to help the children,"
Mr. Ambinder said. "It's great
to see the smiles on their faces."
The center serves 250 chil-
dren on a daily basis, offering

programs for abused and ne-
glected children who have been
removed from their homes by
the court and programs for
high risk young parents and
their babies. It also provides
foster care and assists in adop-
tions.
Mr. Ambinder, a collections
manager from West Bloom-
field, became active with the
center through his wife, who
was involved through her of-
fice. "She asked me to join, I en-
joyed it and got hooked," he
said.
Mr. Ambinder has plans to
once again put on a Santa suit
and visit the St. Vincent &
Sarah Fisher Center. ❑
