Ruth and Irving Lando, community leaders in Kalamazoo, awarded the 1994-1995
Oncology Fellowship for Cancer Research to Dr. Ayala Hubert (center) at the
Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem in honor of their son, the late David S. Lando

The David S. Lando Memorial
Oncology Fellowship for the year
1994-1995 was awarded recent-
ly at the Hadassah-Hebrew Uni-
versity Medical Center by Ruth
and Irving Lando, prominent
community leaders from Kala-
mazoo, Mich. The fellowship hon-
ors the memory of their late son,
David S. Lando.

Dr. Hubert's research
deals with the
role of Taxol.

The recipient of the 1994-1995
Lando Memorial Fellowship is
Dr. Ayala Hubert, born in Israel
and a graduate of the Hadassah-
Hebrew. University Medical
School.
Dr. Hubert's research deals
with the role of Taxol in the
treatment of cancer of the pan-
creas. Taxol is a new drug pro-

duced from the bark of the yew
tree; it has been found effective n
killing cancer cells in a number
of ontological diseases.
Annabelle Yuval, chairman of
the donor recognition depart-
ment, presided over the ceremo-
ny.
Dr. Shlomo Mor-Yosef, deputy
director general of the Hadassah
Medical Organization, thanked
Mr. and Mrs. Lando on behalf of
Hadassah for the research fel-
lowships they award each year to
young physicians in the oncology
department.
"The fellowships give young
physicians a chance to conduct
research in their own chosen
field. These fellowships have be-
come a tradition in the oncology
department," he said.
"We are proud of the fellow-
ships because they promote re-
search by young researchers in
this great medical center," Mrs.
Lando said." 0
