JEWISH ENSEMBLE THEATRE

A health department's true
benefit to consumers should fo-
cus on the clean quality of the
food instead of the quality of a
reataurant's decor.
It just doesn't seem fair that a
respected restaurant should be
considered as unclean because of
scores that are based on things
other than its food and prepara-
tion.
In a number of cases, too, a
restaurant owner's last dollar
could be knocked out of his or her
hands ... and for reasons that
have absolutely nothing to do
with food.
This is not to say that all
health inspectors are scoring
wrong ... There are still many
who look at it strictly from the
health aspect ... which is defi-
itely ... and surely ... how it
should be done.
ATLANTANS KNOW about
it and accept the two-hour wait
with eager anticipation ... The
Atlanta Fish Market on Pharr
Road in Buckhead serves almost
every fish that swims and has
been rated one of the country's
best new restaurants by Esquire
magazine.
Carolina Mountain salmon
trout served to so many at the At-
lanta Fish Market is called that
because the filet that comes on a
bed of whipped potatoes looks
like salmon and has the delicate
. taste of trout, which it is.

It's not fancy ...
just delicious

The turn-of-the-century Sa-
varmah look, complete with rock-
ing chairs on the porch, large
back wall mural, light fixtures
like stars orbiting the earth and
huge potted plants, makes up an
interesting decor.
Guests Jerry Yaeger (Mary-
land crab cakes), Scott Raskin
(swordfish), Bonnie Raskin (cat-
fish), Brenda and Steve Zucker-
man, who exalted deliciousness
about their seafood selections,
have made this an absolute
"must" come-back-to restaurant
... Everyone had Caesar salad
which seemed disappointing per-
haps because it was such a
crowded Saturday night and not
enough dressing was used for five
people ... But the fish dishes
were all excellent and much rea-
son for all to see why Atlanta
Fish Market has such a high rat-
ing.
On Atlanta's Northside Park-
way, a delicatessen-restaurant is
noted as a place where folks go to
eat and meet ... Snack 'n Shop
has been owned by Renee and
Saul Feldman since 1953, with
seating for 99 in the seven-day-
a-week operation.
It is open only until 5 p.m.,
serving breakfast and lunch, no

dinner ... Breakfast Monday-Fri-
day, 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.; Satur-
day and Sunday brunch, 9 a.m.
to 2 p.m. ...Such a wonderful joy
to be there with former Detroiter
Dan Chovenac, associate pub-
lisher of the Atlanta Jewish
Times, and Dan Uslan, one of its
ace account executives.
Greenwoods on Green Street
is a "sleeper" that gives you a lot
of home-cooked food prepared
fresh daily ... Prices are quite
reasonable and credit cards
not accepted ... A lot of good,
wholesome food for the money in
a former home that veritably
oozes charm ... There always
seems to be enough food to take
home if folks desire ... a lot like
that good old Southern hOspital-
ity with its plentiful of every-
thing.
CONGRATS ... to Robert and
Andi Lawton ... on their seventh
anniversary.
NOT A NIGHT fit for beast or
boat, so rubber tires and wheels
instead of a rudder took us via
auto rather than Emyle and Bar-
ry Semansky's 38-foot water
gazelle to Jack's Waterfront
restaurant on Jefferson.
Thanks to meeting Tony
Amine at a Michigan Cancer
Foundation Partners shindig, he
had a table for us by the window
... Tony helps as bartender on
Saturday evenings for brothers-
in-law Tom and Mike Lefebre,
who own Jack's with Dr. Eugene
Boyle.
The former Quonset but is an
interesting restaurant, seating
about 350 in the 12,000 square
feet including patio area ... It
opened this year and has a cou-
ple of boats within the restaurant
in which folks with special occa-
sions can eat by reservation.
Waitpersons like head server
Gloria Adamowicz, so very per-
sonable and efficient, do much to
make for a most pleasant
evening.
Then back to Great Lakes
Yacht Club for its weekly ice
cream social and bingo.
At evening's end, rain water
was so deep in the parking lot
that getting to our car was an an-
kle-wetting adventure ... Cousins
Elmer and Hilda Raskin said the
deduction was simple why our
car made so much noise ... That
was the club's suction hose and
pump we were dragging.
PROOF THAT fraternalism
isn't dead is the 40 or so members
who attend Knights of Pythias
Detroit Lodge 55 meetings every
Tuesday evening on Coolidge in
Berkley ... Also its recent Past
Chancellor's Night, which has al-
ways been a great feature of this
fine organization throughout the
many years ... Dinner prepared
by member Bernie Kerner, for-
mer Darbys bossman/host,
among others, preceded a high-
ly-attended evening that will no
doubt again be an annual
event, Li
